Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom concert posters, Dead memorabilia, psychedelic literature
The first show at the Fillmore in December of 1965 marked a turn in the San Francisco music scene. The owner, Bill Graham, was described as being in perpetual motion, a description that explains why San Francisco was transformed, no longer “little more than a few jazz clubs with no dancing.” Flower Children and square folks alike packed into the venue to see the likes of Big Brother, The Dead, Grace Slick, and Janice Joplin.
Types of Mushrooms
Amanita Phalloides (Death Cap): looks like consumable mushroom, making accidental poisoning more likely (think Roman Emperor Claudius, Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI)
Pleurotus sapidus: Pleurotus, from Greek for “side ear”, consumable
Coprinus comatus: “lawyer’s wig”, if only
Lactarius deliciosus: doesn’t taste as good as it smells

Psychedelic Solution
Poster shop in Greenwich Village, NY
Art by Rick Griffin
“Harbinger of Emotional Geometry Since 1967,” indeed
postcard sent in 1989
Psychedelic Solution was purchased by Wolfgang’s Vault in 2004, adding hundreds of thousands of pieces to its already “premier online site for live concert music and memorabilia”. Located in Greenwich Village, Psychedelic Solution was previously owned by Jacaeber Kastor. One of the leaders in the poster industry for 37 years, Kastor owned one of the most extensive personal collections in the world. The shop served as an artistic hub, with Kastor hosting regular gallery shows featuring vet/novice poster artists alike. Kastor’s current web page, along with charming photos, can be found here. Vasarely Planetary Folklore 1971
In 1960, Victor Vasarely said, “the art of tomorrow will be a common collective treasure or it will not be art at all” and “the end of personal art for a sophisticated elite is near.” This attitude, along with his status as father of Op-art, became a major player in 60’s and 70’s popular culture. Vasarely’s art resides in several major museums worldwide, and the official website can be found here.
